We just did our grapes 3 varieties and 3 varieties of Raspberries last week finally in the ground! Happy Berry planting to your orchard. Hopefully we all get a great harvest next year .! 🪴😊👍🏡 I did mine from bare root then potted them like you did I think it gives them a better chance growing 👍😊

I didn't mean to make the holes in the plastic I meant to dig the holes after you make the holes in the plastic😂

Is there a reason you don't use an auger attached to your hand drill to make those holes? It seems like it would be so much easier but I'm sure you have a logical reason for not doing so.

I would blend everything first, then put it in the slow cooker to get the right consistency. I would have told you that it was not ready to blend as things get more watery when blended.

The problem with planting berry plants with a ground cover/weed fabric is the plants send new shoots up from their spreading roots. The fabric will prevent your plants from naturally reproducing. I use several layers of compost, mulch, and manure as my berry bed. Weeds pull up easily and regrowth is prolific. The new plants can thicken your berry patch or be transplanted to expand it elsewhere. I've even sold many of these new plants as starters. Also, when planting your berry plants, the roots should be stretched in a direction that keeps the new shoots coming up where you want them. Bunching up these elongated roots when planting will inevitably kill your plants. This means that your initial planting holes will be oval in shape rather than round.

Yeah the weed fabric will prevent new canes from coming up. They send out runners. We started our patch many years ago and have a large prolific patch. No trellis needed . The canes support each other.

The cane plants replace the cane after 2 years, and they spread through their roots, if you have the weed fabric they will not be able to replace the canes or expand. a better option would have been either a thick layer of mulch or to cut through in strips instead of holes i would think, like burn a 1 foot long hole spaced a foot or so apart. also the canes do not get bushy.

I was thinking of doing the weed fabric for my raspberries also. My concern was that if I made the hole to big yes weeds and grass would grow. But, if I made the hole to small the off shoots wouldn't grow. I can't wait to see how this works for you

Blackberries absolutely DO climb 😂. I'm from Washington and I am VERY familiar with blackberries 😂. They also SPREAD through the CANES , so the weed fabric might prohibit expansion. Raspberries get completely out of control also - which is a good thing 😉. Just PLAN ACCORDINGLY 😉. FYI....I don't know when/if my storm is going to hit you, but it's been non-stop for HOURS with no end in sight (do ticks drown 🤞🏻?). Your berries will LOVE all the rain😊.

Back then my mom didn't even needn rubber mats and manure and all that stuff just to grow a garden. People just want money for things. She ended up with pretty big vegetables too good vegetables. I don't have a yard if I did I'd have a lot of good vegetables. I live on a downhill slope. I'm at the bottom there's a little area I tried growing a garden back there but all there is snails back there, tons of mosquitoes. It's because it's by a river. Something was back there nibbling on my vegetables I was trying to grow.Saw some cats go down that way and a possum. I did grow some potatoes that was it. Not very many.

There are drill bit augers that you attach to your cordless drill. Good for doing holes like you did today without the need for a hand shovel. Aimed at those watching as you Kevin and Sarah have already made their holes. Eager to see how your raspberries grow. So sweet to see the dogs enjoying the outdoors. 🌸🐨🌸
